Sheriff Frustrated With Behavioral Health Situation

Delta County Sheriff Fred McKee says he’s frustrated with the behavior health care situation in Colorado. In a press release yesterday the Sheriff recounts a current case where a Delta County Inmate with minor criminal charges cannot get admitted to the state mental hospital in Pueblo due to lack of availability. McKee says a district judge has issued an order stating that the inmate has mental illness and as a result, is gravely disabled and long term care and treatment is appropriate and A senior mental health care provider has stated that he is the most seriously ill person she has ever worked with. The Sheriff adds Colorado must sufficiently fund the state mental hospital in Pueblo so that they can take in these individuals that are a serious imminent danger to our communities.
