Montrose To Give Historic Jail A Facelift

The city of Montrose has been awarded nearly $35,000 to begin preserving the original Montrose County Jail. The city’s vision for the jail, is to preserve the interior of the building and restore the exterior to its original condition. The city hopes to reopen the building to the public for tours. Montrose officials say noted outlaw Butch Cassidy was incarcerated at the jail at one time. The City of Montrose purchased the building on 217 south first behind Abel’s Ace back in 2016.
