Judge Dismisses Suits Against San Juan County Utah County Commissioners

A Utah judge has dismissed the first of three lawsuits filed by an environmental group over boundary changes involving the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument.  In their lawsuit, Southern Utah Wilderness Alliance argued that San Juan County commissioners violated Utah’s open meeting law when they met privately with federal officials last year.  The judge shot down that argument, saying that the meeting was not covered by the state law since the county has no control over national monument designations.  SUWA is already planning to file an appeal.
